Black Women Need Room To Breathe

The Great Exhale is a private membership community created by Black women for Black women. It is a soft, nurturing online space where Black women around the world can relax, lay their burdens down...and exhale.

Although many organizations encourage their employees to "show up as their authentic selves," that is often not possible for Black women. They are frequently forced to code switch, mask, and otherwise dim their light.

Being constantly on guard against microaggressions, retaliation, or simply being "the only," can prove exhausting to the mind, body and spirit.

We saw a need to create a space where Black women could feel free to be themselves, and manifest lives filled with joy, ease, and abundance.

Our community is dedicated to empowering Black women to live their best lives, both personally and professionally. We offer a range of resources and support to help our members achieve their goals and reach their full potential...and we are just getting started!

We encourage all Black women to join the movement, embrace the soft life, and start their great exhale.

"Our goal is that The Great Exhale™ will be an oasis for Black women. Our vision is that it will be a soft soothing sanctuary where Black women feel seen, valued, loved, relaxed, and most importantly–free."

Our Values

Sisterhood, First: Our Founder Lisa Hurley once commented when talking about creating this community, that "it's like a global sorority for Black women". This community should feel like a sorority - a gathering of sisters who are there for one another. That sense of community and support is something that is truly special and unique.

Positivity: We strive to cultivate a positive environment where everyone can feel inspired and uplifted by their interactions with others.

Courtesy and Respect: We value kindness and politeness in all our interactions. While we welcome all viewpoints and perspectives, we ask that members communicate their opinions in a constructive and tactful manner. We believe that everyone deserves to express their thoughts and ideas as long as they are respectful towards others.

Healing Through Shared Experiences: Being a member of this community means having the chance to be surrounded by like-experienced™ Black women who share our experiences and understand what each other are going through.

We advocate experience-based guidance - know that there is a sister waiting to lend an ear.

We encourage our members to embrace the sisterhood by getting to know one another within the community and to take advantage of the many resources available to them.

Most importantly, a community means no one is ever alone - you are part of a community that cares.
